A Christmas campaign has been launched at 5Rise shopping centre in Bingley to collect public donations for British troops currently serving on the front line in Helmand Province.
The ‘In a Jiffy’ campaign is inviting members of the public to drop by the centre with a jiffy bag containing essential items and small luxuries that are in short supply to serving soldiers. The aim is to help provide the soldiers with some much-needed creature comforts and a physical reminder of the support of the public back home while they are in action in a dangerous war zone.
Centre owner 4Urban has teamed up with Pulse radio to promote the campaign and also linked with centre stores Co-operative Food and Home Bargains to display goods that are appropriate to send. These include toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, Vaseline, books and magazines, razors, sweets, pens, playing cards etc.
Richard Holmes, Director at 4Urban said, “There are many low cost, daily items which we may take for granted but are in short supplies to the troops. While the soldiers are fighting for their country, the battalion's welfare committee is co-ordinating the collection of 'goody bags' to send to those serving on the frontline. Christmas is a time for families to enjoy together and unfortunately that will not be possible for some. We really wanted to get involved and feel that local people will show support too.”
Those wishing to support the campaign can drop into 5Rise shopping centre in Bingley from now until 11th December. Goods appropriate to send are being displayed at Co-operative Food and Homes Bargains at 5Rise and are also listed on www.pulse.co.uk
