Bingley's new library

Working in close collaboration with Bradford Metropolitan District Council, 4Urban and its contractors have re-located the existing Bingley library from the first floor of the original shopping centre to custom built premises within its redeveloped '5Rise' scheme.

With an ethos for long-term regeneration 4Urban had a vision for Bingley library to create a focal point for the community. It wanted the space to bring people together and invite, invoke and inspire generations to read, create and imagine.

As a result, the main focus of the specialist interior company Preferred Office Environments' design is a bright, light and unique space for local residents, visitors and staff alike.

The new 6,000 sq ft library contains the usual book and computer provision that you would expect in a library, as well as WiFi so customers can bring in their own laptops. Newly integrated facilities include a flexible meeting room that can be used by community groups, a cafe area and self-service issue and returns machines.

The neutral décor keeps the space from becoming claustrophobic, whilst the use of bright accent colours and fun furniture successfully create an environment unique to Bingley library and take library design onto another level.

Jackie Kitwood, Principal Libraries Officer at Bradford Metropolitan District Council commented: "The new library is much better placed to serve the community, from day one 4Urban supported our vision, and the contractors, Spring & Co as well, worked closely with us. We demanded the best for our citizens and the entire team responded positively to that challenge. We now have a useful, dynamic environment to deliver library services from."
